James also had a coal carrying business in the same area.. Unfortunately, when he was 86 (I believe) he was crushed between two such trucks and left the two businesses to his one-armed son William.
They were built of sterner stuff in those days!
You can probably see a reference to James’ grandson, Jeremiah, in the top right-hand corner. This grandson was the son of one of the emigrates to America and was the captain of a lake-based ferry on one of a group of 5 lakes in New York State. This was Lake Skanateles. The five lakes had an annual competition and Jeremiah captained Theodore Roosevelt's entry to first place in the race.
